A Laser Light Scattering Study on Molecular Weight Distribution of Linear Polyethylene
نویسنده
چکیده
Time-average and time-dependent intensity of light scattered by linear polyethylene (LPE), Dutch State Mines sample L30-4-6, in a good organic solvent, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene at 135 "C, was measured as a function of polymer concentration at scattering angles between 35 and 145O. Molecular properties determined were the z-average radius of gyration, = 50 nm, the z-average hydrodynamic radius, (Rh-');l = 27 nm, the weight-average molecular weight, (M)w = 570, the weight distribution, Fw(M), and the second virial coefficient, Az = 1.5 X lom3 g" mL mol. The main purpose of this article was to determine F J M ) for a LPE based on (M)w, (R:),, A2, and the characteristic line width distribution G(r) computed from an inverse Laplace transform of the measured single-clipped time correlation function, Gk@)( 7). We have demonstrated thh nonintrusive technique to be particularly useful in obtaining an approximate Fw(M) for polydisperse synthetic high polymers which are difficult to characterize by more established analytical techniques such as gel permeation chromatography (GPC).

Laser Light-Scattering Study of Novel Thermoplastics. 2. Phenolphthalein Poly(ether sulfone) (PES-C)
Five narrowly distributed fractions of phenolphthalein poly(ether sulfone) (PES-C) were studied in CHCl3 by both static and dynamic laser light scattering (LLS) at 25 °C. The dynamic LLS showed that the PES-C samples contain some large polymer clusters as in previously studied phenolphthalein poly(ether ketone) (PEK-C). These large clusters can be removed by a 0.1-ím filter. Our results showed ...

متن کاملDynamic Light-Scattering Characterization of the Molecular Weight Distribution of Unfractionated Polyimide
Using a developed laser light-scattering (LLS) procedure, we accomplished the characterization of an unfractionated polyimide (UPI) in CHCl3 at 25°C. The Laplace inversion of precisely measured intensity–intensity time correlation function from dynamic LLS leads us first to an estimate of the characteristic line-width distribution G(G), and then to the translational diffusion coefficient distri...
متن کاملInteraction of Laser Beam and Gold Nanoparticles, Study of Scattering Intensity and the Effective Parameters
In this paper, the optical properties of gold nanoparticles investigated. For this purpose the scattering intensity of a laser beam incident on gold nanoparticles has been studied using Mie theory and their respective curves versus different parameters such as scattering angle, wavelength of the laser beam and the size of gold nanoparticles are plotted. Investigating and comparison of the depi...
